St Pachomius and the Angel on Two pieces on Birchwood-Venerable Pachomios the Great Desert father - Contemporary sacred art holy iconography and Theology

A representation of St Pachomius receiving the rules of Coenobitic Life by an Angel of the Lord . The Angel wears the monastic tonsure and gestures towards it ( in the traditional representation holds a scroll that writes "By this scheme (monastic) all flesh is saved, O Pachomius" I like the shape of the thin slices of birchwood branch. Its upper part reminds me the hood of a monk- ( the kind of monk hoods that are found on the old icons of the east)- I use two slices to represent the Angel and the Desert father

The thin slice of a wooden branch (measuring 25 cm x 7 cm approx) was specially treated with gesso and sandpapered to acquire a surface for painting. Several layes of egg tempera where applied and finally shellac and resin varnish have sealed the colors.

Each icon comes with a glued (like a stamp) hanger assorted with its handmade felt bag, certificate and little extas- ready for a very special gift.
