St Nicodemus driftwood painting of a Holy Myrrhbearer Saint- Byzantine icon on repurposed wood

Share:

Nicodemus the Pharisee and secret disciple of Jesus, one of the Holy Myrrh-bearers according the orthodox tradition The size of this artifact can be seen in relation with my (small) hand in the  pics.

The artifact was created with egg tempera  in a piece of driftwood from a beach in the northern shores of my island (Crete) that was specially treated before gessoed. On  top of the colors  shellac (goma laca) and a final layer of resin varnish was used to permanently seal the colors. The copper gold that was used as a background, will eventually acquire an antique patina that will only add charm to the little ornament

My work comes safely packaged with its handmade bag and mini assortments form my shop- Perfect for a very special very personal gift
