St Gerasimos the Jordanite Made to order byzantine icon of the Hermit with the Lion egg tempera on wood
€130.00
A desert dweller and angel in a body- A hermit saint that tamed wild beasts and founded the fanous lavra in Palestine - In the pics we see the first drawing , the first step on the making of the icon
The two images we see (the drawing and the finished piece) will be the base for the hand painted with the traditional egg tempera technique byzantine icon. The final piece will be similar but it can never be identical- After all, every brush stroke is unique
The icon measures 19x25cm and is 15mm thick. The icon is painted by hand according to the rules of the old byzantine art of hagiography or else holy iconography. In this ancient technique we are using the egg tempera on a plastered wooden panel we made our selves. After painting, the icon is varnished (this one has the traditional mixture of wax and resin) to seal the colors and produce an artwork that will last.
In his scroll it writes in Greek one of his sayings.
Copper gold is added on the background that will eventually add an antique copperish patina to the painting.
Additionally the icon comes carefully packaged as gift together with some mini extras from our shop
