Saint Mary of Egypt and St Zosimas- Contemporary neo byzantine iconography eastern orthodox holy icon sacred art of the East

Two venerated figures that their representation is always very special : St Mary of Egypt receiving the holy communion by St Zosimas. I like the shape of this thin slice wood. Its upper part reminds me the hood of a monk- ( the kind of monk hoods that are found on the old icons of the east)- I use two slices to represent Maria Aegyptiaca and St Zosimas in earthly colors and variations of lilac.

The thin slice of a wooden branch (measuring 25 cm x 7 cm approx) was specially treated with gesso and sandpapered to acquire a surface for painting. Several layes of egg tempera where applied and finally shellac and resin varnish have sealed the colors.

Each icon comes with a glued (like a stamp) hanger assorted with its handmade felt bag, certificate and little extas- ready for a very special gift.
