Miniature icon of St Alexandra of Rome, Saint Alexandria Empress and Holy Martyr, religious mini painting by angelicon

Share:

Once an Empress, wife of Diocletian, a roman noble and a brave woman who fiercely stood against her husband proffesing her faith openly before St George. Her memory is commemorated on April 21st, along with her three servants Apollo, Isaac and Cordatus.

One of the Miniature Female Saints - Virgin Martyrs I' like to paint- . My purpose is to make light and small original icons that could escort  their owner whenever he/she goes. The miniatures are painted  with egg tempera in small gessoed wooden panels with size:

 3.5" x 1.9" (9cm x 5 cm)

The name of the Saint -- Aghia Alexandra -- is hand painted in Greek, with brownish egg tempera and byzantine characters. I chose for her a discreet golden crown, a luxurious cloack and a feather stylus (denoting her education). Gopper gold is added as a background for Her enlightement. Shellac and resin varnish are added on top to seal the colours and produce a miniature icon that will last

<3 Gift Wrapping: The miniature is complemented with an organza bag/ tulle sachet (decorated with a handmade crocheted ornament) suitable for gift wrapping
