Made to order St Ismene- Custom order for a hand painted byzantine icon 40 virgins Greek female saints

 Custom order for a hand painted icon of saint Ismene (or Ismini in Greek), one of the 40 Virgins being celebrated (together with many other rare Greek bnames) on September 1st

*** A reference picture of an older piece of mine is published- The icon will be similar to this but not identical- every brushstroke is unique

Sizing - Technique

The icon will be painted on a specially prepared (reinforced with  gesso) plywood panel measuring 10mm thick plywood and 22x28cm

The method would be the traditional egg tempera - a mixture of powder pigments egg yolk and vinegar-  Thr colors I plan to use will be complementary: Purple and Yellow. The young female saint's head will be covered in a whitish head scarve and she will be carrying the cross of the martyr

The background will be gilded with copper gold and an organic dye will be applied (on top of as craquelure) to give the painting an antiquelook - The colors will be sealed with two types of top coats. to make an arifact that will stay in the family gor generations

 

Delivery schedule/Timing
After the order, it is panel preparation and then the painting phase which both will last about two weeks. I ll send a picture update as soon as the painting is done-  The colours and the top coats (shellac and varnish) will also remain to "rest" for a cou[le of weeks

Finally when the painting is totally dry- I pack the icon (prepared always as a gift) and send it first priority registered mail
