Made to order St Brendan of Clonfert Icon of the Navigator or the Voyager Contemporary original byzantine art Saints of Ireland

A custom order for Saint Brendan of Clonfert , an Irish saint honored on both eastern and western tradition- He is  one of the most venerated Saints of Ireland- He is pictured here wearing a travelling mantle and holding a ship whilewith the right hand heismaking the blessing gesture

Size 19x25 cm approx and is 15 mm thick

Our technique is egg tempera (a mixture of egg vinegar and mineral powders).  Colours used will be similar with an older work of angelicon you see in the pic. Copper gold on the background will eventually add an antique patina to the painting.  The egg tempera will be applied in layers and on  top of them shellac (goma laca) and a final layer of resin varnish  is to be used to permanently seal the colours.- 

It usually takes me about two - three weeks to prepare the wooden panel, apply colours and varnishes and have them completely dried and ready.
