The Last Supper Icon -Jesus and 12 apostles, religious folk on the Passion of Christ -contemporary art of Greece

The Icon of Last Supper of Christ. A rough gessoed canvas hand-painted with egg-tempera with haloes made of copper gold. The icon is inspired by a medieval fresco in panagia Kera in Kritsa, a very beautiful Church of my island Crete.

I like the more folk - like almost naive representation where the colours are very bright. The Lord is seated on the one side next to His favorite disciple John- On the other side is Peter. Right on the center the only one, not looking on the Lord, reaching his hand to grab as much as he can, is Judas the Iscariot.

As I was painting the Apostles I think the order they are seated is the folllowing (from left to right): Our Lord, John and next to him his brother James (sons of Zebedee), James the brother of God, Andrew, Thomas on the top, Judas Iscariot, Phillip and Nathanael near Thomas, Simon the Zealot, Matthew, Thaddeus and Peter

On each side the words "O Deipnos o Mystikos" The Last Supper, are writen as well as Jesus Christ (IC XC- Iesous Christos) in Greek.

It is a gessoed canvas size 35 x 40 cm painted according to the rules of the old byzantine art of hagiography or else holy iconography.  After painting, the icon is varnished (with a natural resin varnish) and then we leave it to dry for several days to produce an artwork that will last.

The icon is shipped thoroughly protected in its handmade bag with some extras from our shop, perfect for a very original unique gift
