Icon of Sofia Pistis Elpis Agape-inspired by Nesting dolls -hand painted eggtempera on repurposed wood - sacred art made in Greece
I had this image of saint Sofia and her daughters Pistis Elpis Agape (Faith, Hope and Charity) being drawn like nesting dolls the one in front of each other- It is this notion of maternity, of family line. It seemed so natural, one is connected with each other, contains each other and at the center: Agape, - Love, at the core of all (...And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.)
For the icon board a slice of a repurposed, contruction wood was specially treated and then carefully reinforced with a thick cotton cloth and gesso to produce a proper surface for the egg tempera layers.
Size: The uneven icon measures 33x10cm approx.
The names of the Saints are written inside ther copper gold haloes (like medallions). The colours were protected with an additional layer of shellac and finally wax varnish was applied on top to make an artifact that will last for long.
Size: The size of the construction wood is irregular. with a metal hanger on top for hanging
The icon comes with the adequate gift wrapping and some extras from our shop
The icon comne with its own metal hanger to be dispalayed on a wall and always with the adequate gidt wrapping
