Icon of Evangelismos or Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary - Painting of Theotokos and Gabriel inspired by medieval art

An icon of The Announciation  to the Blessed Virgin Mary inspired by an  by armenian illuminated manuscript and executed with tempera in a plywood panel conered with gesso. Moreover, the icon of Evangelismos always brings in my mind the other verses of Luke 1 "...37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. 38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word."- that is another reason why I will never stop making this icon.

The painting was made with egg tempera in a gessoed panel with size: 19cm x 25cm

The technique used, was the one of byzantine iconography where pigment (mineral) powders are mixed with egg and vinegar and then they are applied layer upon layer to create the holy icon. After that shellac and varnish are added to "seal" the colors and create an artifact that will last.
