A custom listing for  the icon of Our Lady Untier of Knots- A catholic theme, viewed by a contemporary  byzantine point of view

The icon represents the Panagia (That is the Greek appelation for the All Holy Mother)- The Holy Mother looks directly into the viewer, untiying knots on a piece of cloth. The dominant colors will be red (divinity) blue (humanity) white (purity)- the traditional colors used for representing the All-Holy

Background will be copper gold that would have a patina on, to acquire an antique look. Her name Meter Theou/MΡ ΘΥ -that means Mother of God- will be written on the sides, with red eggtempera, with the styled and ornamental way that is dictated by byzantine tradition .

The two images we see (the drawing and the finished piece) will be the base for the hand painted with the traditional egg tempera technique byzantine icon. The final piece will be similar but it can never be identical- After all, every brush stroke is unique

Sizing - Technique

The icon will be painted, with the traditional egg tempera - a mixture of powder pigments egg yolk and vinegar-  on a specially prepared (reinforced with cotton and gesso) birch plywood panel , with the curvature on top created by hand measuring Size 40x25 cm approx. and 1.5 cm thick

The background will be gilded with copper gold ( that would have a patina on, to acquire an antique look)- The colors will be sealed with two types of top coats.On the back the icon comes with a hanger

Delivery schedule- Timing
After the order, it is panel preparation and then the painting phase which will last about three-four weeks. I send a picture update as soon as the painting is done-  The colours and the top coats (shellac and varnish) will also remain to "rest" and completely dry.

Finally when the painting is totally ready- I pack the icon (prepared always as a gift) and send it first priority registered mail to you!
