Contemporary icon St Symeon the Stylite and St David from Thessalonica the Tree Dweller (Dendrite)- versions of Sainthood, ascetism and orthodox Christianity
St Symeon the Elder, the stylite a Syrian Saint and St David from Thessalonica the Tree Dweller (dendrite)- An older icon that I ve decided to study in two slices of wood - One of the things that I love on orthodox iconography its variety in themes; a saint that has occupied a pillar (stylite) and a saint that has occupied an almond tree (dendrite) - versions of Sainthood, ascetism and orthodox Christianity
The thin slices of a wooden branch (mesuring 27 cm x 8 cm approx) were specially treated with gesso and sandpapered to acquire a surface for painting. Several layes of egg tempera where applied and finally shellac and the traditional wax varnish have sealed the colors.
The icons come with a glued (like a stamp) hanger assorted with their handmade felt bag, certificate and little extras- ready for a very special gift.
