Byzantine Icon of the Holy Communion- Painting of the Eucharist - Icons Jesus Christ on carved wood folk outsider art of Greece



An icon of Christ A visual representation of  Mathew 26:28 " ... Take, eat; this is my body. ... Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins...."  -A  handpainted byzantine icon representing the mystery of the Holy Communion 

The icon measures 19x25 approx and is painted on a very original carved by hand panel- All thae background is guilded with coper cold with carved -byhand- decorations. The brownish patina is eggtempera and a brown organic dye that wil further enhance the copperish color of antique gold. 

 On the top "Agia Metalipsis" - Holy Communion  is written in greek. On the left and right the monograms for Jesus Christ (IC-XC- Iesous Christos) while the Halo has "O On" the Being, written in it- --The technique used for painting is egg tempera- That is mineral powedrs mixed with egg and vinegar applied on the gessoed wooden panel. After the colors have "rested" we apply shellac and resin varnish to create an artifact that lasts.
