Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary nicho painting Holy Mother and Archangel Gabriel- shadow box Madonna Retablo Outsider

An icon of the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary part of a series  traditional religious pieces inspired from  Mexican retablos - Eka has freely worked with egg tempera, on  a medieval theme .

A wooden shadow box, a Nicho type of box and gessoed canvas was used to create this folk piece with the Holy Mother and the Archangel Gabriel. The background was covered in copper gold and red.

A gessoed canvas was also cut and painted with egg tempera and put inside a wooden box (varnished gold) measuring on the inside approx 14cm x 19cm . In the end the colors were sealed with shellac and varnish.
