Saint Paul of Thebes considered to be the first Hermit (or the first monk according to St Anthony the Great) painted by hand with egg tempera in a thick piece of wood made by fir that was carved by hand to create a border

The flat surface was specially prepared with gesso for eggtempera After painting, the icon is varnished and the wooden border were first prepared with organic varnishes and dyes and the varnished again with resin varnish to seal the colors and produce an artwork that will last.

Size 13x18cm and is 20mm thick 

The name of the Saint is written on the sides in Greek. (Aghios Poimin)
